The most recent project was the renovation of the farmhouse and large new build oak frame extension, with a contract value of £1.5m. The existing farmhouse is a traditional Lakeland farmhouse, with masonry walls and Westmorland slate roof supported on historical timber trusses and purlins.
The extension structure comprises a green oak timber frame and trusses, with steel floor beams and a steel glazed link between it and the existing farmhouse. Large areas of curtain walling have been utilised on the lake facing gable, entrance gable and link.
The main difficulties were to obtain the necessary stability due to the large, glazed areas. The project was also the first to be modelled in Revit BIM software, in collaboration with the Architect.
